The guides in this book cover the entire spectrum of possibilities that the popular website has to offer, showcasing how online communities can foster and nurture creativity. From outdoor agricultural projects to finding new uses for traditional household objects, the beauty of Instructables lies in their ingenuity and their ability to find new ways of looking at the same thing. How to Do Absolutely Everything has that in spades; the possibilities are limitless, thanks to not only the selection of projects available here, but also the new ideas you'll build on after reading this book. Full-color photographs illustrate each project in intricate detail, providing images of both the individual steps of the process and the end product.

From homemade laundry soap to solar-powered phone chargers, the projects in this collection are created from how-to articles at Instructables.com. Projects are divided by general category, but the lack of any index is problematic. Photos are direct from the website and vary greatly in quality. Instructions for some projects are condensed, and complicated processes cannot be explained in a way that will allow them to be accomplished safely or satisfactorily. In addition, the usefulness of some articles is highly questionable--underwater pumpkin carving, really? VERDICT It is a far stretch labeling the contributors to this volume as experts, and this collection is a mixed bag. Although there are a number of interesting projects, they are superficially covered. A marginal purchase--only where there is demand.
