K-Gr 1 -Folk- and tall tales often lose much of their flavor when retold as easy readers. That is not the case with these offerings, and many children will enjoy being able to read the stories on their own. "Gingerbread Man" taunts and teases his way to the river where he meets a tricky fox. Youngsters will enjoy the familiar refrain. "Paul Bunyan" includes the several exploits of the oversize lumberjack and his blue ox, Babe. In "Chicken Little", Foxy Loxy outsmarts a group of hysterical friends rushing to tell the king that the sky is falling. The sentence structure and vocabulary work well for children who are developing their independence as readers. The colorful cartoon illustrations provide clues and reinforce the major elements of each tale. These books would also work well with students learning English." -Maura Bresnahan, High Plain Elementary School, Andover, MA"
