The November Girl

You don't want to be here when November comes.
Everyone leaves before the storms come...except me. I am the only one who remains on Isle Royal, ready to embrace the legendary Lake Superior storms that turn the skies wicked and the water dark.
For most of the year, I am human. Partly. But when the gales of November come, my humanity fades with the storms. I speak with the lake, the winds, and I wait for the ships that will shudder and sink. And for every life that is lost, I grow stronger.
Only this year, I am not alone on the island. A boy has sought refuge here, hoping to escape the pain of his human life. I should send him away, before he learns who—or what—I really am.
Yet his touch warms the iciness of my faulty human heart, and his kiss makes me feel almost...human. But the storms are already on their way.
And when the witch of November arrives, I won't be able to protect him.
