Gr 7 Up-This series covers the usual territory concerning Greek mythology. Each book begins with a bulleted list of key points discussed in the text. The language is easy to read and written in short sentences surrounded by white space. Captioned images of statues, artwork, and antiquities accompany the text. Text boxes provide more detail about topics like the origin of the sphinx and traveling to the underworld. A glossary, source notes, index, and further research section are included. VERDICT There is nothing new in this series; only purchase if you are lacking Greek mythology books for reluctant readers.

Grades 6-9 The books in The World of Greek Mythology series (5 titles) dig deep into classic tales and the famous figures therein. Each book begins with a handy "At a Glance" section that lists the topics and themes that will be covered. Four chapters follow, giving an overview of the book's topic, a selection of stories or figures from mythology, and a look at how Greek mythology has impacted human culture. Monsters presents creepy mythological creatures, which ancient Greeks believed came from the disorder of early creation, and classic battles of good and evil. Greek mythology is perennially popular, and these introductions are perfect for readers daunted by denser books and those whose first language isn't English. With well-crafted and clear text, source notes, and research tips, this series will appeal to fans of mythological tales and those doing research.
