Will writing a romance help this author find a real-life hero?

Charity Anderson turned her back on Kings Meadow years ago, with good reason, and has avoided visits to her hometown whenever possible. But with her house in Boise damaged by floodwaters and a book deadline bearing down, staying in her parents' empty home seems her only option. However, being back in Kings Meadow dredges up a painful secret, and old fears threaten to overwhelm her.

Charity's former high school classmate Buck Malone never left town, instead sacrificing his dreams to take care of his family. Now he enjoys an uncomplicated life as a wilderness guide and confirmed bachelor. The last thing on his mind is settling down.

When Charity's dog causes an accident that leaves Buck with a broken ankle and wrist at the start of prime tourist season, Charity has little choice but to render aid while he recuperates. Soon Buck becomes the inspiration for Charity's hero, both on the page and off. Can he also help her face and overcome her fears so they might find their own happily ever after?

Charity Anderson has been running from Kings Meadow her whole life. A successful and popular author, she does the unthinkable while working on a deadline--she moves back home for the summer while her house is being renovated after a flood. Buck Malone, whom she just happened to have a crush on when she was growing up, lives next door to her parents' house. Circumstances bring them together, but can Charity move beyond her past fears and failures to enter a new life with Buck? VERDICT In Hatcher's second series outing (after Love Without End) the attention to detail brings the Idaho scenery to life and makes the plot believable. Sensitive subject matter (teen pregnancy and stillbirth) is handled delicately, with the protagonist resolving her issues. This fast-paced, adventurous love story will find plenty of admirers in fans of Tracie Peterson and Shelley Shepard Gray.--Shondra Brown, Wakarusa P.L., IN

Charity Anderson, a best-selling author, returns to her Idaho hometown, Kings Meadow, for the first time since she went off to college. Buck, the next-door neighbor, was a popular athlete when they were in high school and now makes his living as a wilderness guide and outfitter. When he makes a neighborly gesture at the supermarket, Charity's huge dog takes him down, breaking his leg and wrist and leaving him incapable of doing much of anything. When Charity tries to help him by exercising his horses, she rediscovers her love of riding and the beauty of the countryside. But she remains haunted by a past mistake for which she can't forgive herself. Buck has his own regretful reasons for not wanting a wife or family, but he can't help but be very interested in his famous neighbor. Hatcher's latest Christian romance in the Kings Meadow series (Love without End, 2014), with its strong messages of redemption and accepting love, will appeal to readers seeking wholesome stories and those who enjoy beautifully rendered depictions of western landscapes.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2015, American Library Association.)
