  Ruination exists as a distant history to the League of Legends story, so fans of the game will know from the outset what the tale's inevitable conclusion is. Nonetheless, it gives some life to a necessarily formulaic tale. Kallista, tasked by the old king to guide her young nephew Viego when he inherits the throne somewhat unexpectedly, hopes to change the legacy of Camavor from one of destruction and conquest to something more noble. She has an ally in the queen; when the queen is struck down by an assassin's blade, Viego descends into violence and fear, sending Kallista away to find the probably-mythical Blessed Isles, and a cure. Erlok Grael, passed over as an apprentice on those very Blessed Isles, was made a Warden who guards the vaults below the city. Steeped in resentment and the solitude of the dark labyrinth containing the artifacts of the Blessed Isles, he explores and plots his revenge. Inevitably, his path and Kallista's cross; he offers her information that leads to a cascading series of decisions motivated by her desire to protect Camavor and the king, each one compounding the coming disaster. For fans, this will provide a welcome addition to the background lore of the game; those unfamiliar will find an appealing if grim fantasy.
